Brian Kelly pulls a fast one on Tennessee with LSU hiring former Vols fan favorite

The LSU football team has had to undergo some staff restructuring this offseason as the Tigers lost a few coaches and added additional coaches on top of it.

Slade Nagle left to be the offensive coordinator at Houston, and in his place is former Florida State offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins. Defensive Line coach Bo Davis took the same job with the New Orleans Saints, and the Tigers landed LSU legend Kyle Williams in his place.

Along with the positional coaches, LSU has landed several analysts and interns this offseason, helping reshape the coaching staff. The latest hire comes as LSU hires former Tennessee offensive lineman Jackson Lampley as an intern.

As the Tennessee Vols’ star joins an SEC rival, the reaction from the Volunteers fanbase is telling. Based on the reactions from Tennessee fans, the LSU football team is getting a great player and person in Jackson Lampley, as the Vols fanbase has nothing but good things to share about Lampley.

Tennessee fans being able to swallow their pride and admit that Jackson Lampley has a great opportunity at LSU is incredible to see.

Jackson Lampley spent 6 seasons with the Tennessee Volunteers, playing in 4 seasons with 2 years as a starter. During his career, Lampley appeared in 52 games, playing 647 snaps and allowing just one career sack, which is an impressive mark. Lampley was a Tennessee legacy, as his father, Brad Lampley, played on the Peyton Manning Tennessee teams.

While Lampley isn’t a main positional coach, he can definitely have an impact with LSU’s offensive linemen. Hiring a former SEC offensive lineman just out of college can help, as he can better translate the scheme and what’s being taught to the players in easily explainable terms. It’ll be interesting to see how long Lampley sticks around with LSU, as he could get poached after this season.
