‘Get it sorted’: Robbo rips Knights as Young saga gets ugly

“That’s been fairly annoying the way … it was sort of put out there as if we were trying to push him out, which was not the case,” Robinson said.

“Newcastle rang us, obviously having talked to his manager beforehand when he got dropped to try and get him out, and we said yes.”

Robinson said the Knights then asked the Roosters to pay Young’s contract for the year.

“Their chairman (Geoff Coburn) said they had the money to take him now, so we agreed. His management wanted that, and then they backtracked at the end of the week and on Monday,” Robinson said.

“That was really annoying. If you’ve asked for something, you’ve prepared it, and then you stick by it, and they haven’t done that.

“It’s sort of thrown Dom in a spin, and us this week, when it wasn’t our doing. So it’s pretty annoying.”

Robinson said they had no intention of releasing the England international before they were approached by the Knights.

“We had not one discussion about letting Dom go at all,” he said.

“Then we get approached by Newcastle and his management; they say, ‘We want this to happen,’ and we say, ‘Fine, you take up the contract.’ Then they want us to release him and us to pay money for it, when we weren’t even thinking about releasing him? In what world does that happen?

“You asked; you said you had room in your cap, so get it sorted. You threw a guy’s life upside down for a week.”

Jarryd Hayne returns to the football field.

Robinson said he had a “good discussion” with Young last week and claimed Young had no knowledge of any potential transfer requests before it happened.

“We were clear about who instigated it. He didn’t know about it; his management did, and Newcastle did,” Robinson said.

“So Dom and I are really clear on what happened. It didn’t come from us; it came from them.

“They’ve backtracked on that, and we’ll get back to work with Dom. Dom hasn’t done anything wrong in this, so it’s been really clear with us.

“It’s been an annoying week. It’s not how you do things … that’s just not business.”
