JUST IN: Netflix Announces New Official Documentary on the Iconic American Heavy Metal Band Disturbed

Netflix has just dropped the first teaser for its highly anticipated documentary chronicling the explosive legacy of Disturbed—the multi-platinum, chart-topping heavy metal band that emerged from Chicago’s underground scene in the mid-1990s and went on to dominate global stages.

Formed in 1994, Disturbed consists of guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren, frontman David Draiman, and bassist John Moyer. The band’s thunderous sound, aggressive riffs, and Draiman’s unmistakable vocal style carved out a unique place in metal history, influencing an entire generation of hard rock acts.

The film, titled Down with the Sickness—named after their breakout anthem—offers an unflinching look into the band’s evolution, their battles with the music industry, personal struggles, and the creative fire that has driven them through multiple decades of success and reinvention.

Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Derek Sandoval, the documentary aims to be more than a career highlight reel. Instead, it captures the brotherhood, intensity, and emotional depth that have defined Disturbed’s journey from local gigs to international acclaim.

“Disturbed isn’t just loud—they’re layered,” Sandoval said in a statement. “This documentary dives into what makes them tick: the pain, the passion, the politics, and the purpose behind their sound.”

The teaser features never-before-seen footage—raw tour bus moments, studio sessions, fan interactions, and powerful live performances that showcase their signature fusion of aggression and melody.

Narrated in part by David Draiman himself, the film peels back the curtain on key turning points: the meteoric success of The Sickness, the band’s hiatus and triumphant return, and their evolution into politically conscious storytellers with albums like Immortalized and Evolution.

“We’ve always tried to speak our truth—about pain, healing, society, and what it means to survive,” Draiman says in the teaser. “This film shows the scars behind the songs.”

Social media erupted within hours of the teaser’s release. Fans called it long overdue, praising Netflix for spotlighting a band that has consistently connected with listeners on a visceral level. One user wrote, “Finally, the recognition Disturbed deserves—can’t wait!”

Down with the Sickness will also feature commentary from music industry veterans, fellow metal artists, and the band’s longtime crew—painting a full picture of Disturbed’s impact on both fans and the broader heavy music landscape.

Set for a worldwide release this fall, the documentary is being hailed as a must-watch for rock and metal fans alike. In a genre often defined by chaos, Disturbed’s story stands as a testament to survival, conviction, and staying true to a vision.

As Draiman puts it in the final moments of the trailer: “We’re not here to chase trends. We’re here to disturb the peace—and we always will be.”
