Van Morrison adds extra 80th birthday concert date in Belfast

Van Morrison has announced a second celebratory concert in Belfast to mark his 80th birthday. The east Belfast star will now perform two shows to celebrate the start of his ninth decade.

The first 80th Birthday Celebration concert, scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Europa Hotel, sold out quickly, prompting the addition of a second show on Tuesday, June 24. These performances, titled the “Big Birthday Blues” concerts, will offer fans an intimate evening of music, fine dining, and celebration in the heart of Morrison’s hometown.

The Europa Hotel, a landmark venue in Belfast, will host these exclusive events. Doors will open at 5:30 PM, followed by a three-course dinner at 6:15 PM, curated by award-winning executive chef Kyle Greer. The concert itself will begin at 8:00 PM, featuring Van Morrison and his band performing a blend of his timeless hits and newer material.

These concerts continue Morrison’s tradition of celebrating major milestones with performances in Belfast. His 70th birthday in 2015 was marked by two legendary shows on Cyprus Avenue, a street famously referenced in his classic album “Astral Weeks.” Those shows drew fans from across the globe and further cemented his deep ties to his birthplace.

Born on August 31, 1945, in east Belfast, Van Morrison was deeply influenced by his father’s extensive collection of blues, country, and gospel records. He first rose to fame in the 1960s as the frontman of the band Them, known for hits like “Gloria” and “Here Comes the Night.” His solo career took off with songs like “Brown Eyed Girl,” becoming a defining voice in modern music.

In recent years, Morrison has remained musically active, releasing his 45th studio album, “Accentuate the Positive,” in November 2023. The album highlights his passion for rock ’n’ roll, featuring spirited reinterpretations of tracks such as Johnny Kidd’s “Shakin’ All Over.”

The “Big Birthday Blues” concerts are expected to be standout events, blending Morrison’s storied musical journey with the elegance of the Europa Hotel. Attendees will enjoy not just world-class entertainment but also a shared celebration of one of Belfast’s most iconic artists.

Due to high demand, fans are encouraged to secure tickets as soon as possible. The Europa Hotel also offers overnight packages, allowing guests to make the most of the celebration. More information and booking options are available on the Europa Hotel’s official website.
